Henry Slater Meredith
Street, Clerkenwell, London.
This one is similar to
the Norris No.12.
Smoothing plane made by
Henry Slater. The iron and cap iron are not named but probably by W.
Marples who made all irons for Henry Slater.
Rosewood infill's are
damaged (see photos) but really lovely figuring, these are held in
by screws inserted to body sides of the plane. The brass lever cap
has a typical makers stamp. Plane sizes 9 Inches by 2 1/4 inches
lever cap, front bun and rear infill have been secured to the iron
body with screws.
Unlike many infill
planes the front bun on these Slaters is not overstuffed. The spur on
the handle of this plane has very small chips and abrasions.
OK so the plane has had
repairs, they have been executed with care and offer an insight into
the differing methods which can be used for supporting a cracked
A nice solid user plane
despite the repairs, Iron is sharp and ready for use.
